The Infant and Toddler Teacher Certificate is designed to prepare caregivers for employment in programs serving infants and toddlers. It is also recommended for Licensed Family Child Care Providers who care for very young children in home-based settings. Completion of this certificate fulfills the State of California Title 22 requirements for teaching infants and toddlers in licensed facilities. Additionally, coursework in this program provides opportunities for students to study, observe, and apply developmental principles in the Child Development Laboratory Instructional Classrooms. This certificate also meets the requirement for six specialization units toward the Title V Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. Students who are considering a professional career in infant development are strongly encouraged to complete an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T) degree in Child Development. A minimum grade of “C” is required in each course. The Infant and Toddler Teacher Certificate requires a total of 27 units.
Projections of 15 students per year. The infant/Toddler class caps at 30, and is offered once per semester.
