Jazz and Commercial Music at ELAC offers students training in a wide variety of musical styles and skills. While strongly rooted in the traditions of jazz, classes in this area are designed to equip the 21st century musician with relevant abilities for a career in music. Key areas include improvisation, composition and arranging, individual performance skills and work with large and small ensembles, as well as hands-on training in studio production. With a dedicated faculty of industry professionals, cutting edge facilities including an on-campus equipped recording studio, and a multitude of classes ranging from jazz improvisation to mixing popular music, ELAC has something for everyone.

Program Goal
The Certificate of Achievement in Jazz Studies provides the student with career preparation for entry-level positions in the growing fields of jazz studies. Students gain requisite skill sets, including mastery of jazz theory and techniques. Students collaborate with other students arranging, and performing jazz in a variety of situations, developing partnerships indicative of those that exist in a professional environment. Students benefit from the hands-on approach offered by Commercial Music and Music faculty, with labs and ensembles being a primary source of both direct and collateral learning.
