Catalog Description
Welding Technology is a CTE program designed to prepare students for a variety of entry-level positions in today’s welding industries. Course offerings range from very basic welding fundamentals to advanced welding techniques. Students gain skills in safety procedures, related welding processes and welding theory. Students can earn welder certifications in accordance with the American Welding Society (AWS) and The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS). Long Beach City College is a City of Los Angeles Deputy Weld Test Lab and several of our Instructors are AWS Certified Welding Inspectors/Educators. Upon successful completion of the program. students are prepared to enter into the following career opportunities: welder, welding technician/fitter, pipe fitter/welder, and sheet metal fabricator/welder. • Demonstrate advanced level skills to produce quality welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using the SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) process. • Demonstrate advanced level skills to produce quality welds in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using the GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) process.
