Program Goal
This certificate will allow completers to assist individual athletes and athletic teams to enhance physical performance and prevent injury. Strength and conditioning coaches may specialize in a particular sports team, type of performance, training type, or training philosophy, and are also often employed by professional athletic teams, higher education institutions, high schools, performance centers, recreation departments, and youth athletics. Students will learn to assess the aerobic and anaerobic components of fitness, which include cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. In addition, students in this program will learn functional movement screenings, as well as programming for speed, agility, quickness, and power. Finally, the development of exercise prescription plans that modulate aerobic, resistance, and/or flexibility training to suit the metabolic and physical demands of the sport in question will be implemented as part of the skills and knowledge training in this certificate.
