Catalog Description

The Fire Technology Associates of Arts Degree is designed to meet the educational requirements established by the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) organization for an Associates of Arts degree. The program will also prepare students for the national registry exam and certification as a California State Emergency Medical Technician. This degree program of study was developed to assist students who desire to become a firefighter or desire Fire Technology as a career. This degree will aid existing firefighters in promoting/advancing through the ranks of engineer, captain, battalion chief, etc. After successful completion of this degree, students will be authorized to take the National Registry EMT examination.

Upon completion of graduation requirements and the required degree courses with at least a “C” or “P” (pass) grade in each course, the student will be awarded an Associate of Arts degree.

1. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to evaluate fire and emergency incidents.
2. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to assess the laws, regulations, codes and standards that influence fire department operations.
3. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be able to analyze the causes of fire.

Program Goal

The Fire Technology Associate of Science program  prepares students for careers in fire services. These career paths include identifying fire and emergency incidents, understanding the causes of fire, the evaluation and analyzing of regulatory requirements, and common health and safety concerns. The program is designed to provide students with updated skills and knowledge necessary for fire service careers. Career skills students will learn include fire prevention techniques, behavior of fire, fire-fighting tactics and strategy, and the equipment used in fire protection.
