Early Childhood Administrator 1

The overarching goal is to develop a regional “Careers in Education” pathway model, with a particular focus on administration, supervision, and mentoring in the early childhood education field, to be integrated into the Guided Pathways initiative through the completion of the Early Childhood Administrator 1 Certificate. This certificate will help students develop and practice the roles of administrators, mentors, and leaders. This certificate will prepare students to enter the workforce and fulfill the requirements for obtaining Early Childhood Administrator 1 and 2 Permits from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. 

1. Students will identify and describe major theories of infant and toddler and early childhood development, typical vs atypical child development milestones, strengths and special needs, and recognize basic health issues and conditions that may promote or impede children's optimal growth and development. 

2. Interpret best and promising teaching and care practices as defined within the field of early care and education’s history, range of delivery systems, program types, and philosophies, and ethical standards. 

3. Assess early childhood settings, curriculum, and teaching strategies, utilizing indicators of quality early childhood practice that support all children, including those with diverse characteristics and their families. 

4. Facilitate developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant practices, communicate the importance of developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant creative experience; and document how to set up and maintain a creative environment for children utilizing cultural, traditional, and communal information. 

5. Plan, prepare, demonstrate, and evaluate a developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant social studies/math/science investigation/experience activity that utilizes the scientific inquiry process based on early learning guidelines and the National Math and Science Standards. 

6. Analyze the quality component of an early childhood program and effective supervision skills. Examine tools of staff evaluation and create a staff development plan. 

7. Plan developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive learning experiences and environments that support the topics of health, safety, and nutrition. 

8. Identify how the child develops within a system and is influenced by multiple factors of socialization, including the educational, political, and socioeconomic impacts on children and families. 

9. Create and maintain a collaboration between home, school, and community to foster culturally responsive educational practices.  

This Certificate of Achievement is meant to replace the current certificate called Site Supervisor – Certificate 3. The current certificate will be archived when this COA is approved.  

This program meets the needs of students who are going to be Administrators in any early care setting which is licensed in the state of CA. It is a needed program, and this is just a revamp of the requirements.
