The Certificate of Achievement in Data Science and Analytics is designed to provide students with fundamentals of computer programming, database principles, and statistics to pursue a wide range of careers in engineering, finance, insurance, IT, marketing, business and other data analysis-related fields in the social sciences. It teaches the skills to develop advanced tools to model, analyze, and present data, which they can use in their day-to-day work as a data analyst, and advance their careers.

The Certificate of Achievement in Data Science and Analytics degree is designed to provide students with sufficient understanding of concepts in the fields of Mathematics, Data Science, and Computer Science to seek employment in data science and related fields. The certificate creates a pathway to pursue and apply data science in one's fields of interest ranging from business, biotechnology, to the social sciences.
It is also a pathway to the AS degree in Data Science at Berkeley City College, which provides a pathway for transfer.

Course Report
The program requirements of this course enable the student to use computer programming, database principles, and statistics concepts to develop advanced tools to model and analyze data, and present findings in graphic and written reports. Additionally, students will be able to apply data science and computational skills to solve problems in different fields of interest.

CTE & Transfer
Berkeley City College (BCC) and Laney College are part of a California Learning Lab grant with UC Berkeley, UC Merced, Merced College, and City College of San Francisco. The grant's scope of work is to create pathways to the Data Science major at UC. This certificate is the culmination of that work to create the pathway for BCC students. The certificate has been approved by the BCC and Peralta District curriculum committees. Additionally, the BCC Computer Information Systems Department held an Advisory Committee meeting in Spring 2025, during which all members provided support for the Data Science certificate.
