The Electrician Training program is an approved training program by the California Division of Labor Standards. Students enrolled in this program can obtain their Electrician Trainee card in order to seek employment with a C-10 Electrical contractor and earn their required on-the-job hours. The program will prepare students to pass the State Electrical Examination and Certification process. Students in this program will aquire skills in the principles of electricity, circuitry, power distributuion, electrical construction processes, and safety codes

Enrollment Completer Projections

We anticipate starting with a cohort of twenty students which our lab and lecture space can safely accomadate. If the demand were to grow we could offer both a Fall and Spring starts, which after a year would allow for 40 completers in an academic year.

Program Goal

This program very easily aligns with the Butte College Mission Statement by offering a high quality education and support in a career pathway. Accoring to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 21% of the electricians in the US are Hispanic, this program will compliment our status as an HSI. An Electrical Program would also align very well to our Strtegic Initiative number 5, Modeling Sustainability. With our Region, State, and Country moving away from fossil fuel energy to a much cleaner electric energy policy. The process of converting to all or mostly electrical systems is going to create a very large demand for trained electricians. This program will provide the education and training needed to pass the State Electrician Trainee test. Allowing for gainful employment in an industry that has a strong demand for skilled workers.

Students completing this program should be able to find living wage jobs and the IBEW would be a backup if they do not get employment with private contractors.
