New Program

Place of program in college's curriculum/similar program

The Automotive Business Entrepreneurship Certificate of Achievement expands East Los Angeles College’s existing Automotive Technology curriculum by integrating business administration, entrepreneurship, and management coursework with automotive technical education. The program complements current STEM Career and Academic Pathway (CAP) offerings, including the Automobile Technology Associate of Science Degree, Automobile Technology Certificate of Achievement, and Automotive Customer Service Management Skills Certificate, while also aligning with Business Administration CAP programs such as Business Management, Marketing, and Micro Business Management.

The certificate is designed to provide students with both technical automotive knowledge and entrepreneurial business skills needed to establish, manage, and operate automotive-related enterprises. Unlike traditional automotive technology programs that primarily emphasize diagnostics and repair, this program focuses on small business ownership, operations management, customer service, supervision, and entrepreneurship within automotive service environments. The interdisciplinary structure strengthens career pathways for students pursuing automotive business ownership, shop management, mobile automotive services, aftermarket operations, and related leadership opportunities within the automotive industry.

List similar programs at other colleges in the Los Angeles Region

Similar programs within the Los Angeles/Orange County region are offered at Cerritos College, Cypress College, Long Beach City College, Pasadena City College, Rio Hondo College, and Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, all of which offer Automotive Technology programs focused on vehicle systems, diagnostics, repair, and service operations. These programs primarily prepare students for entry-level technician and service roles within the automotive industry.

The proposed Automotive Business Entrepreneurship Certificate of Achievement is distinct in that it integrates automotive technical knowledge with business and entrepreneurship coursework, preparing students not only for technical roles but also for supervisory, operational, and business ownership opportunities within automotive repair facilities, mobile automotive services, aftermarket businesses, and related transportation enterprises.
