Computer Networking Technology Fundamentals
New Program
Computer Electronics (093410)
08/15/21
This one-semester program covers the fundamentals of computer networking technology. These core courses provide the necessary skills for those seeking entry-level employment as computer service technicians without areas of specialization. General topics include personal computer servicing, troubleshooting, computer operating systems, and personal computer troubleshooting. This fundamentals certificate will prepare students with the requisite knowledge for subsequent Computer and Networking Technology certificates and degrees. The courses in the fundamentals certificate approach computer repair from a hardware-first perspective, as distinct from other programs with a software or applications emphasis. This focus reflects the department's core belief that a solid understanding of electronics reinforces the necessary knowledge and skills to troubleshoot and repair computing equipment.
24 Annually with a retention rate of 94% based on success rate of CNET students the past two years.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
Upon completing the Computer and Networking Technology Fundamentals Certificate, students achieve competencies in the basics of personal computer servicing, computer operating systems, and personal computer troubleshooting. Students are prepared to work as computer technicians, service technicians, and desktop support , and have the ability to use hardware and software tools, utilities, and equipment to diagnose and repair personal computing equipment. This program differs from other CTE programs at the college as we do not have a Computer and Networking Technology certificate that can be completed within the first semester of enrollment. Further, this certificate is a laddered certificate that can be applied towards subsequent level Computer and Networking Technology certificates and the A.S. degree of the same name offered by the department.
