Program Requirements Narrative

The department within which the program will reside it Social Sciences. The department does not need a new faculty. There is no need for new facilities. The program aligns with LBCC’s Strategic Plan in that it strives to prepare students for meaningful careers with relevant and professional skills. The modified version of the program will streamline completions and better prepare students for the certification. This modification is also critical to maintaining accrediting California Association of Alcohol and Drug Educators.

This program serves the community by creating a pathway to academic and technical opportunities. Addiction filed has impacted the community and many of the participants can make great changes in their lives by attending this program and changing their life experiences to professional and evidence-based practices.

Once students enter the Fieldwork portion of the program, students can enter internships with community partners in the region. These partnerships include Fred Brown Recovery Center, Tarzana Treatment Center, and Changing Spirits of Long Beach. There are currently 50 internship partnerships with behavioral sciences centers in the region. This is an increase from 3 agencies in 2015.
