The Certificate of Achievement in Instructional Assistant/Paraprofessional Educator - Classroom Settings meets the Education Code ((EC Section 45330, 20 U.S.C. Section 1112[c][6]) requirement of candidates having 48 college units to work as an instructional assistant/paraprofessional educator in a school district classroom setting.
This certificate provides foundational knowledge in child development, educational theory, inclusive practices, and instructional strategies for teaching diverse learners in classroom settings. Courses emphasize culturally responsive teaching, universal design for learning, and support for children with developmental disabilities and delays.

Goals
- Produce high-quality education through the development of reflective, ethical, and culturally responsive future teachers.
- Prepare students for employment as instructional aides, expanded learning educators, and paraprofessionals in school settings to strengthen the educator pipeline.
- Prepare students for transfer to pursue a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential.
Objectives
- Recognize equity-based, inclusive educational frameworks, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Demonstrate hands-on knowledge and skills in instructional planning, child guidance, and classroom practices for children.
- Prepare students with foundational coursework aligned to California’s Multiple Subject Credential admission requirements and elementary education pathways.
