Fully Online Certificate Program 

The need for qualified online teacher and education technology expertise will continue to grow as the scope of technology advances in every aspect of life locally and globally. This program provides the skill set and tools needed to increase student learning propelled by creativity and innovation. The series of courses in this program are created with ideas, strategies and resources based on the latest pedagogy and practice of teaching. For those who are new or fairly new to classroom and online teaching or for the conscientious educator who just wants to focus on a certain area, these courses provide necessary skills and support toward creating a successful learning environment.

Learning Outcomes:

1.      Demonstrate effective communication necessary for teaching online and use of technology in education.

2.      Analyze concepts and theories related to online teaching and use of technology in education.

3.      Integrate the latest pedagogy and practices of online teaching and use of technology in education.

Online Teaching and Educational Technology certificate program focus on teaching through computers, best practices for online teaching methods, and mobile technology. EDIT 010 - Computers and Digital Media in Education 

Students will learn how to effectively implement instructional technology into an educational environment.  Students will explore how Internet and online learning technology, combined with pedagogy, computer applications, digital media and web technology tools, can be used for teaching and learning.

EDIT 015 - Online Course Design: Theory & Practice 

Teaching online has some fundamental differences from teaching in a traditional classroom. This course introduces you to the regulations and practices at the heart of the differences, setting you and your students on a path to online success. In this course you'll gain proficiency in the unique qualities and perspectives of masterful online teaching, including powerful ways to support the success of online students, how to lay a foundation for a productive learning community, and infusing your course with your distinctive presence. It will also walk you through the pertinent federal, state, and local regulations impacting online teaching, and set you on a path to designing success for you and your students.

EDIT 022 - Online Course Development

This course teaches the skills and knowledge necessary to create effective online learning environments using Canvas, a Course This course teaches the skills and knowledge necessary to create effective online learning environments using Canvas, a Course Management System (CMS). Students will explore examples of the Canvas content, learn to navigate the interface, add tools and content, and perform basic course management functions. This course also integrates the Course Design Rubric to train faculty how to not just build courses in the CMS, but how to build quality courses. Students will learn to customize their courses, focusing on course design, interaction and collaboration, assessment, and learner support. By the end of the course they should have an in depth understanding of Canvas tools and be ready to begin using this CMS for their classes.

EDIT 023 - Creating Accessible Course Content

This course provides an overview of accessibility within online courses, focusing on the skills needed to make your course both technically accessible and usable to a broad range of students. The course covers how to use online tools, including your course management system (CMS), to create accessible resources, to retrofit existing resources, and to curate new resources. The focal point of the course is learning how to use editors (both in your CMS and in common software, such as Microsoft Word) to enhance accessibility.

EDIT 025 - Copyright and Creativity in Digital Learning

This course is designed for educators to understand copyright and fair use concepts and how to manage copyrights by exploring various areas of copyright law. The purpose is to build the responsibility among educators to prepare students with the essential 21st century copyright and fair use skills to be successful in the digital world.  

EDIT 026 - Women in STEM

Female participation and retention in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and careers is an international issue with critical social, economic and political implications. In this course, students will learn strategies for women and girls to overcome the societal and cultural barriers to STEM careers and focus on narrowing the gender gap in STEM.  Students will do so by exploring emerging technologies and their potential impact in increasing women's access and success in STEM education and careers.

EDIT 027 - Adopting and Integrating Open Education Resources 

Open Education Resources (OER) are openly licensed for reuse, usually through a Creative Commons license, which allows them to be integrated into any type of learning environment, including being printed and bound. The purpose of this course is to help participants develop better workflows and streamline the process of integrating Open Education Resources into their course(s). This course is designed to demonstrate how to find, adapt, and use OER.
