Goal of Program

CTE

Include any other information you would like to share.
The certificate adds two new courses to existing curriculum to provide learning outcomes important for an entrepreneur or small business owner. The department currently offers noncredit entrepreneur courses and certificates. This program would provide a credit option for students that might want to develop a broader set of skills necessary to create a new business idea or start a new business. This new certificate will complement existing offerings and provide an opportunity for students not yet served by the business program.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
There are similar programs at Skyline College and City College of San Francisco. However, labor data shown above indicated a great demand in East Bay. This new program at Ohlone College is also different than similar programs at other colleges in terms of courses offered. Finally, Ohlone College has a strong partnership with the Tri-Cities Career Center and the Alameda County Small Business Development Center. Students taking this program at Ohlone College will also receive additional benefits from different career workshops, business events, and business networking.

You mention only Skyline and CCSF, but your LMI shows that there are already 6 programs in the East Bay. They awarded 13 of the 17 associate degrees and 16 of the 48 certificates mentioned in the COE's report. The COE concludes there is still an undersupply, but you should still have mentioned and reached out to the other colleges before submitting your proposal.

Note from Ohlone Team: On 12/23, we reached out to faculty at Chabot College and Las Positas College to alert them about the program coming up for recommendation. We provided a program description and invited them to contact us with any questions. Faculty contacted included Allan Graves and Steve Lanza.
