The Automotive Powertrain Specialist certificate/degree prepares students to apply technical knowledge related to service, diagnosis and repair of Engine, Transmission and Drivetrain systems found on modern automobiles. Emphasis placed on engine and transmission rebuild procedures. Engine block and cylinder head machining is covered.
Upon successful completion of this program,students should be able to:
• Demonstrate personal and shop safety procedures needed to safely work in an automotive shop environment
• Utilize common shop equipment to diagnose and repair transmissions and related control systems.
• Demonstrate the ability to perform industry standard rebuild procedures.
• Identify root cause of common engine failures
• Demonstrate ability to utilize precision measuring equipment required to properly rebuild engines and transmissions.
