The associate degree in Interaction Design for Web and Mobile Platforms prepares students for entry-level employment in the web and mobile industries with emphasis in user-centered design. This program of study will expose students to the designand technical skills needed for creating interactive digital media. This includes working with industry best practices and applying them using current professional tools. Students will participate in a collaborative team-oriented learning experience that reflects the design industry production processes.Additionally, students will explore web and mobile career opportunities and develop a professional portfolio for entry into the workforce. A few of the areas that students might find employment include: Web Design and Development,User Experience Design (UX), User Interface Design (UI), Digital Product Design, and Mobile Design and Development.

To earn an associate degree, students must complete each course used to meet a major requirement with a “C” grade or higher. Some courses are available in online and traditional formats.

Program Goal: Career Preparation

Increasing innovations in mobile apps, smartphones, and connected appliances, continue to converge with web technologies. The goal of this program is to address the increasing demand for designers who understand user-centered design principles. Development of this degree program will include courses from Art Digital Media, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Business. This intersegmental approach will prepare students pursuing careers in Web Design and Development,User Experience Design (UX), User Interface Design (UI), Social Media and Search Marketing, Digital Product Design, and Mobile Design and Development.

The degree program goal is to prepare students to enter this growing field with a strong foundation in the fundamental aspects of web design and mobile design. Students develop creative problem-solving skills, learn the concepts of interaction design, and apply user-centered design. Students will learn industry best practices and apply them using current professional tools. Some areas that students might find employment include: user experience design, user interface design, social media and search marketing, accessibility specialist, digital product design, and web and mobile design.
