PROGRAM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: The Application Design and Web Services Certificate prepares students for careers in no-code and low-code application development, cloud services administration, and AI application deployment.  Students build functional applications that integrate AI services through visual development environments, deploy cloud-based AI applications using managed infrastructure and serverless architectures, and design intuitive interfaces that make AI capabilities accessible to end users.  The certificate is open to all students and includes the following Program Learning Outcomes: 1. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to design intuitive interfaces that make complex AI capabilities accessible to end users through visual interaction patterns. 2. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to build functional applications that integrate AI services through no-code platforms and visual development environments. 3. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to deploy cloud-based AI applications using managed infrastructure, serverless architectures, and API authentication workflows. The certificate prepares students for employment as No-Code Developers, Low-Code Application Designers, API Integration Specialists, Cloud Services Administrators, Web Services Developers, Serverless Application Developers, and AI Application Support Specialists.

MASTER PLANNING The Application Design and Web Services Certificate prepares students for the growing field of no-code and low-code application development within the Multimedia Arts department at Berkeley City College. Design teams increasingly deploy AI-powered products using managed cloud platforms and pre-built API services. Since 2022, demand for professionals who can build, configure, and deploy AI-enhanced applications through visual development environments has grown across technology and creative industries.  This certificate supports BCC’s mission of providing educational opportunities that lead to careers by addressing regional demand for application developers who work at the intersection of design and cloud technology. The program is open to all students. All courses are available as distance education. No significant new expenditure is required. The program uses existing faculty, facilities, and equipment within the Multimedia Arts department April-9-2026

ITEM 5. ENROLLMENT AND COMPLETER PROJECTIONS

The Application Design and Web Services certificate is anchored by MM/MW 001 (formerly MM/MW 1A), the most established course in the program with 60 students enrolled annually across two sections. MM/MW 004 (formerly MM/MW 4) has maintained consistent enrollment at 39 students per offering. Both courses have been offered continuously for multiple years. MM/MW 017 (Cybernetics and Agent-Based Modeling) is a new course scheduled to launch in Year Two, projected at one section with 25 students based on strong continuing interest from MM/MW 001 and MM/MW 004 students. This certificate requires MM/MW 001, MM/MW 004, and MM/MW 017, with students selecting two electives from MM/MW 006, MM/MW 011, MM/MW 012, and MM/MW 019. All courses are drawn from a shared discipline schedule of 7 sections per semester serving all four certificates and the AA degree simultaneously. MM/MW 017 enters the schedule in Year Two by shifting MM/MW 004 to a once-a-year offering, keeping the section count steady. Program completion is projected at 20 to 25 students annually by the end of Year Two.

ITEM 6. PLACE OF PROGRAM IN CURRICULUM/SIMILAR PROGRAMS

The Application Design and Web Services Certificate prepares students to build and deploy AI-powered applications using no-code tools and cloud services. This certificate is expected to attract students interested in application development who may not identify with traditional computer science programs. Students can move between this certificate and other MM/MW certificates, applying shared foundational coursework across programs. The program does not replace any existing BCC programs.

Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.

SIMILAR PROGRAMS AT OTHER COLLEGES IN SERVICE AREA: There are no similar programs combining no-code application development with AI service integration at community colleges within the BCC service area. Existing application development programs at nearby colleges focus on traditional coding languages and software engineering rather than visual, no-code approaches to AI application building.  Laney College offers an AI program focused on programming and machine learning engineering, which serves a different student population and career pathway.
