The Electro-Mechanical Technical Assistant Certificate of Achievement is designed for individuals seeking to advance their qualifications to be hired or promoted in electro-mechanical maintenance positions. The certificate is designed as the gateway for the Electro-Mechanic Certificate of Achievement. All “ELTEC” coded classes included in the Electro-Mechanical Technical Assistant Certificate of Achievement are approved by the Division of Apprenticeship Standards as officially recognized classes for the training of electrical trainees (ET) in the State of California.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Electro-Mechanical Technical Assistant Certificate of Achievement is a necessary step to accomplish
the strategic goal of harmonizing Modesto Junior College’s Electrical technology program with the vision
and goals of the Guided Pathways project (as defined by the California Community Colleges Chancellor
Office.) In the pursuit of that strategic objective, MJC proposes the rearrangement of this program in a
sequence of smaller, and therefore shorter, programs leading to the Electro-Mechanic certificate of
achievement. In such spirit, the specific goals of the Electro-Mechanical Technical Assistant Certificate of
Achievement program are to deepen the skills obtained in the previous certificate, the Electrical
Maintenance Assistant CoA, and to be a previous stage in the sequence of stackable certificates leading
the Electro-Mechanic award at MJC.
The Electro-Mechanical Technical Assistant CoA provides elective classes for training in topics related to
worksite necessities (for students employed in the manufacturing industry,) or for exploring
specializations in industrial maintenance (for students not employed in the manufacturing industry.)
Students who accomplish this third level of technical training will improve their employability value and
will find an incentive to further their skills following manageable milestones. This new certificate will be
the third stage in the sequence of stackable certificates leading to the Electro-Mechanic Certificate of
Achievement.
