Program Requirements Narrative

This program will reside within the Social Services department.

There is currently no need for new faculty. The program is in need of a room suited to facilitate counseling observation for training purposes.

Students in the Human Services program interact with and provide services to the community at large.  They will network with community agencies.  Additionally, community agencies will interact with Long Beach City College as they provide field trip opportunities as well as job and volunteer opportunities.  Community agencies who visit the college, also provide services to the students and serve as members of our advisory committee.

Human Services is currently associated with Right at Home as an employer.  Right at Home is working in conjunction with Career Coach and will employ students offering a flexible work schedule.  Additional agencies come to classes as guest speakers to inform students of the various agencies in the community who will provide future employment and/or volunteer opportunities.

Students seeking an A.A.in the Human Services Generalist program have the option of taking a 3.5 unit fieldwork class (HS72A) which will allow them to work for 240 hours at an agency while also receiving supervision and guidance from their professor. Long Beach City College partners with multiple agencies in the community at which students can perform fieldwork, including but not limited to Salvation Army and Fred Brown
