This new certificate is part of a rebuilding of our Adm. of Justice and Fire Science programs, as well rebuilding our Advisory Boards. We are updating our 2 year degrees and certificates in ADMJ and F SC. We feel this is an exciting opportunity for our students. One of our faculty who helped developed the basic Homeland Security course was formerly the Asst. Deputy Chief in charge of Homeland Security for the San Francisco Fire Dept. The current instructor for the 3 unit Homeland Security course is a retired Fire Chief from the Redwood City F.D. Their expertise and subject matter expertise is invaluable.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
Merritt College of Oakland has a 6 course, 16 unit certificate in Homeland Security. Our proposal is a broader selection of courses which will benefit the students. No other community college in the greater Bay Area has a course or certificate in Homeland Security, so there is no impact to Merritt College from our proposal.
