Social Services Management

The Social Services Management Bachelor of Science degree is designed to educate students and develop essential skills to manage and lead social services organizations. Students will apply theory to practical, real-life scenarios as they develop critical thinking skills necessary for a career in social services within local, state, or federal agencies. The program focuses on discipline-specific workforce skills related to social services administration and personnel management, policy and law, communications and community engagement, program planning, cultural competence, and research methods. The coursework emphasizes the practical and theoretical skills of supervision, management, administration, and leadership, focusing on social services organizations encompassing human services, nonprofit management, community development, and other public sector social service careers in rural and regional areas.

Identify the roles and analyze the interactions of various social services providers and community organizations within the context of the populations they serve, with specific attention to the unique needs and challenges of rural and underserved settings.

Evaluate and apply local, state, and federal laws, as well as organizational policies and procedures, to ensure ethical compliance, equitable service delivery, and effective leadership in social services operations.

Identify and evaluate effective leadership, management, and communication strategies to meet the needs of clients, stakeholders, and partner agencies in rural environments.

Develop and implement community engagement strategies that enhance trust, improve communication, and strengthen collaborative partnerships between social services agencies and diverse populations.

Apply advanced critical thinking skills and evidence-based practices to analyze complex social issues, develop innovative solutions, and respond effectively to the evolving needs of individuals, families, and communities.

Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage social services teams by applying principles of ethical leadership, organizational behavior, and effective decision-making to foster accountability, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
