Program Goal

There is a demand in the automotive and motorcycle industry for entry level employees with the specific skills the courses in this certificate provide. This certificate of achievement would be our quickest route to employment for students at 16 units. With focus, a student could complete the courses in one year or less and enter the workforce as a lube tech, lot porter, parts salesperson, or entrepreneur.

This Certificate will prepare students for the new ASE G1 Certificate - Auto Maintenance and Light Repair

Our Auto 100 course used to be cross-listed with a Horticulture certificate of achievement and when they decided to sunset it it became a stand alone course. We feel it is a valuable course; especially now that it includes motorcycle basic maintenance and repair. There are no community colleges in the county which offer motorcycle classes and there is a local need for technicians. We feel it is a great fit for this certificate.

Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

This certificate will afford students with a critical need to support themselves a fast track option for gaining the basic skills needed for an entry level position at an automotive or motorcycle dealership, franchise, or independent repair facility. As stated above, MiraCosta is the only community college in the county to offer basic motorcycle service and repair. There is a need in the community for entry level motorcycle technicians, automotive lot porters, detailers, and parts counter salespersons. This certificate would fulfill that need and provide students with a very conducive, quick path for hire.
