Catalog Description

This program is designed to prepare T-TEN students for employment as automotive maintenance technicians. Training is given in theory and practical skills. Directed practical work is given in areas of automotive maintenance and repair under simulated on-the-job conditions. Particular emphasis is placed on those competencies required of Toyota/Lexus dealerships for entry level employment. The program will provide the student the opportunity to learn basic vehicle maintenance and service the following systems; battery, charging system, brake system, tires and TPMS, steering/suspension, and alignments. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a minimum grade of C or better. All course work must be completed at Cypress College. This certificate requires a total of 28 units.

Program Goal

This certificate supports the Toyota T-TEN student's achievement in demonstrating their knowledge and hands-on proficiency with the ASE Education Foundation Maintenance, Electrical, Brake and Chassis areas,  presented using T-TEN certified curriculum. These skills and passing of the relates ASE certification tests, A6 Electrical, A4 Chassis/Suspension, and A5 Brakes, demonstrate to the employer that the student is ready to work as an entry level maintenance technician on these systems. Diagnostics of these systems begins as the student is mentored during their internship at the Toyota or Lexus dealer.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students must have competence in the repair, diagnostic, and maintenance in electrical, chassis and brake systems used in non-hybrid, hybrid and electric vehicles. The courses listed accomplish this goal.
