Catalog Description

The Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate of Achievement gives students the skill to improve the health of individuals and groups through interventions in behavior change, nutrition, and physical activity. Students gain an understanding of the science behind behavior change, nutrition, and physical activity, and are prepared to implement evidence-based strategies to improve long-term health.

Certificate graduates will be able to facilitate healthy lifestyle change in multiple sectors of the allied health field including hospitals, clinics, worksites, non-profit organizations, and private businesses.

The Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate of Achievement is intended for those working or planning to work as health coaches, personal trainers, registered dietitians, registered nurses, physicians, physical therapists, medical assistants, physician assistants, physical therapy assistants and others who work in the allied health field.

As the health and wellness industry continues to expand, there is a need for individuals who understand the principles of behavioral modification to improve individual and population level health. The Integrative Health and Wellness Coaching Certificate of Achievement positions students at the forefront of the expanding health and wellness industry.

Program Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate coaching strategies for behavior modification as it applies to physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle interventions.

Students will apply evidence-based strategies to improve the health behaviors of individuals and groups.

Students will be prepared to sit for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching exam.

Enrollment Completer Projections

It is projected that 15 to 20 students will earn the certificate annually.

Program Goal

This program allows students to work as health and wellness coaches and to advance their careers as personal trainers, group fitness instructors and medical exercise specialists. This program also helps those in the allied health field, including but not limited to, medical assistants, community health workiers, registered nurses, registered dietitians, physicians, physician assistant, physical therapists, and physical therapy assistants to advance their understanding of health behavior change and work in coaching roles adjunct to their current licensed profession.

Students that complete this program may be able to use units to complete degrees in Public Health or Health Education. 

Upon completion of this certificate students will be prepared to sit for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching certification examination.
