Catalog Description
The Cyber security Penetration Tester Proficiency Award prepares students for entry-level cyber security jobs. Students who complete the award will be able to secure networks by performing penetration testing, security audits, assist with investigations, and oversee security policies. Course choices include network security, ethical hacking, advanced Linux and scripting, and python security. Students completing this 12-unit award can continue obtaining cyber security professional certification.
The Program Learning Outcomes and program assessments are as follows:
- Identify security problems through penetration testing including testing windows based systems, Linux systems, and websites.
- Demonstrate proficiency to solve common networking security problems using products or strategies learned in the classroom to validate security by performing penetration testing.
- Demonstrate the ability to use technical resources to solve security related threats.

Students pursuing this Proficiency Award can continue towards a cyber security AS degree.Industry Labor Market information shows strong demand in cyber security. These security courses will provide the fundamental training to help students seeking employment in a cyber security related career.
The Program Learning Outcomes and program assessments are as follows:
· Identify security problems through penetration testing including testing windows based systems, Linux systems, and websites. The following is the program assessment: Given a varied network topology, students will configure and secure the network and provide appropriate logging and monitoring.
· Demonstrate proficiency to solve common networking security problems using products or strategies learned in the classroom to validate security by performing penetration testing. The following is the program assessment: Given a security problem requiring troubleshooting use varied software tools to recommend a solution to the security vulnerability
· Demonstrate the ability to use technical resources to solve security related threats. The following is the program assessment: Given a security related lab scenario students will use the Internet to mitigate the security vulnerability.
