Community Health Worker certificate prepares students for introductory level positions in community health field. All students must complete at least 18 units. Course work in KIN 235 C may be waived with current Red Cross cards in First Aid and CPR at the discretion of the division. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed. To earn a certificate, complete the required courses as listed with a “C” or better. At least 50% of all course work must be completed at Cypress College.
There is only 1 other community college, East LA, at this time offering this program. Initially, we estimate that 20-30 students will complete the certificate annually. Courses in the program are also offered or will be offered as part of dual enrollment program at CC. Anaheim Unified HS district is aligning their ROP program with the Community Health Worker certificate to prepare its students for swifter transition toward earning this certificate at Cypress.

Kinesiology department seeks to create a dynamic learning eco-system that prepares students for careers, position advancements and/or higher-level degrees through practical, real-worlds and community experiences in and out of the classroom. The Community Health Worker Program aims to prepare students for introductory level positions in community health field. Program will address the labor market need of projected growth and job postings.
The number of jobs for social and human service assistants, and community health workers is projected to increase by 13% through 2022. Nearly 4,100 job openings will be available annually due to new job growth and replacement need (retirements).
In the past 12 months, there have been 649 online job postings for social and human service assistants, and community health workers in Los Angeles/Orange County
