Program Proposal Attributes
- A.S. Degree (S)
The goals of this program is to eliminate the multiple awards currently in the Landscape and Nursery Technology program, thus supporting Southwestern College’s mission of Guided Pathways. The name change to Environmental Horticulture more accurately reflects the programs goals, our courses offerings, and the current field of careers offered. Upon completing this program, students will gain a breadth of horticultural knowledge while also creating awareness of green industry careers and modern workplace skills. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to evaluate and determine if a given set of economic, social and environmental systems and practices are sustainable in the long term.
The Environmental Horticulture program meets regional CTE needs by providing a foundation for students in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. It prepares students for entry level to first-line supervisor level jobs, and self-employment in a wide array of horticulture fields.

MiraCosta College endorses. Please do, however, consider Danene's comments to correct the apparent typo.

The San Diego-Imperial COE recommends proceeding with caution because: 1) there is a small supply gap for the occupations that this program proposes to train for; 2) not all occupations have entry-level wages that earn at or above the living wage; and 3) some occupations require a bachelor’s degree. However, it seems that programs for Environmental Horticulture Occupations have student outcomes that are close to the statewide average for CTE/CE programs in general. Again, the San Diego-Imperial COE endorses this program, but with caution.

Mesa supports this program. One recommendation - in the list of courses you have "Drawing or Graphic Design or Wold Architecture or ant GE Area D:, I think you mean "any" not "ant".
