The Automation Technician Certificate of Achievement is designed for practicing technicians in the field, or advanced Industrial Electronics students, seeking to increase their skills in Automation and Systems Integration.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Automation Technician Certificate of Achievement is an upgrade from its original proposal as a Skill
Recognition Award. The objective of upgrading this award is to transform it into a formal educational
pathway for technicians and electrical-related tradespeople needed to update their skill sets according
to the complexities of a new technological paradigm. Since the upgraded program opens the possibility
for a longer, deeper, more meaningful pathway, it serves also the need to promote educational
attainment for our population. In that sense, the Automation Technician Certificate of Achievement is a
necessary step in a greater project of a specialized automation track toward cyber-physical systems in
harmony with the vision and goals of the Guided Pathways project (as defined by the California
Community Colleges Chancellor Office.)
This new certificate is a fundamental step to planning the continuation of the program toward the
development of a curriculum for cyber-physical systems (AKA Industry 4.0). In such spirit, the specific
goal of the Automation Technician Certificate of Achievement program is to provide core classes in the
programming of automation controllers with immediate practical application in the workplace. Students
who accomplish this level of technical training will increase their employability value and will find an
incentive to further their technical education in the field of automation.
