Catalog Description

The Apprenticeship Carpentry, Finish Carpentry, AS and Certificate of Achievement provides the required related and supplemental instruction for interior systems apprentices in the technical skills required in the trade. Successful completion may result in journey worker status.

Program Goal

To provide related and supplemental instruction for students who are apprentices through Norco Community College; to allow apprentices to earn college credit for their related and supplemental instruction; to prepare apprentices for journey-level work in the acoustical tile field; to meet the needs of apprentices and employers.

Program Requirements Narrative

Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:

1. Prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to layout, cut fabricate, install, and repair wooden structures and fixtures, using hand and power tools. Includes instruction in technical mathematics, framing, construction materials and selection, job estimating, blueprint reading, foundations, and roughing-in, finish carpentry techniques, and applicable codes and standards.

2. Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors.

3. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation, includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways.
