Catalog Description

The Automobile Service certificate includes a series of five classes designed to enhance the student's learning about automotive service and repair, enrich their understanding of the automotive industry, and improve their employability in the automotive service industry. Students will explore the automotive industry, vehicle electronic and electrical systems, automotive chassis, suspension, and brakes, as well as the heating and air conditioning systems of cars and light trucks. Completion of the courses will prepare the student for the Automotive Service Excellence certifications of A1, A4, A5, A6 and A7.

Enrollment Completer Projections

40 to 50 students are projected to earn the Automobile Service certificate annually.

Program Goal

The Automobile Service certificate is designed to prepare a student for an entry-level position in the automotive service industry as a technician. Students will have a working knowledge of the industry as well as a foundational understanding of vehicle maintenance and service. Students will be prepared to be successful for industry certifications such as those available from Automotive Service Excellence in areas A1 Engine Repair, A4 Suspension and Steering, A5 Brakes, A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems and A7 Heating and Air Conditioning.

Program Requirements Narrative

Students can enter into the Automobile Service certificate program with no prior education or courses in automotive technology. The students will progress through each course in sequence, with each course as a prerequisite for the next. Students must successfully complete all courses with a grade of C or better.

Auto 101, Auto 156, Auto 166, Auto 154 and Auto 167 are existing courses which are currently a part of several other certificates. The intent is to create a logical series of stackable certificates which the students will earn as they progress through the program.
