Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

The Cisco CCNA Network Technician certificate is a well established program with successful student outcomes over many years.  Most community colleges in the Bay Area and around California offer Networking and Cybersecurity programs in Computer Information Technology. This program is part of the standard CTE curriculum, to our knowledge there has been no issue of overlap with any college within our region. The current program is being revised to include two new courses which comprise the current catalog course, CIT 013, AWS 1 Cloud Practitioner, and CIT 017, Cyber Security Essentials. Developments over the past few years now require that Cisco CCNA Network Technicians understand and are able to manage systems in the Cloud and how to udnerstand and detect security threats. The addition of these two courses expands the applicability of the Cisco CCNA Cerfificate to meet these two  emerging needs.

Include any other information you would like to share.

This degree will not compete with other degrees or programs at our college. Some of the courses are transferrable to CSU.

Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.

We have discussed with Randy Bryant at DeAnza - J Edward’s is out on medical leave. There are several Cisco Academies in the Bay Atea at almost every college, and all are highly enrolled as the demand is very high. We have coexisted for over 20 years. Similar programs at other colleges is not a reason to consider that there is conflict.
