Program Goal

The Los Angeles region is a global force in industries ranging from health care to entertainment, from real estate to high-tech, from biotechnology to tourism. Los Angeles is home to the headquarters of 15 Fortune 500 companies and a thriving multicultural environment where more than 200 languages are spoken. Source(USC Marshall School of Business Global Business Program). East Los Angeles College is the heart of East Los Angeles and conveniently situated to access the greater Southern California region. ELAC is developing relationships with students and universities in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The college is creating a connection to the people and places that make L.A. one of the nation’s gateways to the global economy.

A certificate in Global Business Relations will introduce a student to a Global Business Relations career. This certificate will prepare students to acquire jobs or advance in jobs at companies that sell goods and/or services outside of the U.S. It will make students competitive candidates in the job application pool by demonstrating their interest and certifying their knowledge in the growing field of global business. Businesses that actively take part in the global economy have a high demand for Logistic Coordinators, Sales Associates, Customers Service Analysts, and Regulatory Affair Specialists. While these job categories do not require a degree, a certificate of achievement would improve a student’s job placement and advancement opportunities.

List similar programs at other colleges in the Los Angeles and Orange County Region.
We have identified three colleges in LACCD that offer a program that is similar to our Global Business Relations program but not the same. 1) Los Angeles Pierce College, Certificate of Achievement, International Business 2) Southwest College, Certificate of Achievement, Global Management 3) West Los Angeles College, Certificate and Degree, International Area/Global Studies Program Similarities: The programs listed above all involve elements of international and global studies. Similar topics include global business, management, and marketing. Differences: Our program stresses global business relations, law, and accounting. The other programs tend to focus on trade, logistics, political science, and/or supply chain. 1) Los Angeles Pierce College: Located in the Woodland Hills valley region of Los Angeles. Their program emphasizes import and export. 2) Los Angeles Southwest College: Located in the South West area of Los Angeles toward Inglewood. Their program emphasizes trade, logistics and supply chain management. 3) West Los Angeles College: Located in Culver City in the west region of Los Angeles. Their program focuses on political science, anthropology, languages, and geography. Our Focus: The certificate in Global Business Relations that we are proposing is designed to cover all aspects of global business relations. Additionally, we are including a course in global entrepreneurship so that students can learn about global business development from a startup perspective and from an intrapreneurship expansion perspective for those working in existing businesses. We are also including a course focused on social media marketing so that students learn about the importance of connecting, networking, and building relationships in a global business environment.
