Students enrolling in the program should be able to commit to full-time student status, which is approximately 15 units per week. This time commitment is necessary to allow for hands-on training with the lab applications used during instruction. An Associate of Science degree in Gas and Electric Welding is awarded for successful completion of 60 units minimum in the required courses below with a “C” or better grade in each course. Upon successful completion of this program a student will have the necessary skills for welding all position, which include flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead on a regulated welding plate. This program prepares the student for fabrication, construction, job shops, entry to mid-level related jobs, and transfer eligibility to a higher learning institution for a Baccalaureate (Bachelor’s Degree), in Industrial Technology. This program gives students skills and knowledge needed to either enter, or advance their careers in Gas and Electric Welding in today’s job market. The Gas and Electric Welding program at Pierce College offers students the opportunity to learn hands-on, technical, and calculation skills that can be applied in a multitude of industry occupations such automotive, construction, transportation, aerospace, and the medical field.
