A. ProgramGoal: CTE
Program Goals and Objectives – must address a validtransfer, workforce preparation, basic skills, civic education, or lifelonglearning purpose. For the purposes of Chancellor’s Office submission andapproval, programs may select one of three program goals: transfer, CTE, orlocal. Transfer is applied only to certificates for CSU GE-Breadth IGETC. CTEis limited to certificates in a vocational TOP Code. Local is used for allother certificates but may include certificates designed to prepare studentsfor transfer.
Goals:
1. Toprovide the technical skills required to perform the job of crime sceneinvestigator or evidence collection technician.
2. Toprovide the knowledge required to perform the job of crime scene investigatoror evidence collection technician.

Napa ValleyCollege currently has an administration of justice program that both preparesstudents for transfer to a 4-year institution as well as for immediateemployment in the criminal justice workforce. The college also has a criminal justice training program that providesstudents with state certified job training for employment as a peace officer,correctional officer or 9-1-1- dispatcher.
This certificateprogram is a job training program for students interested in working as acivilian or sworn crime scene investigator or evidence technician. Many local law enforcement agencies areemploying these “specialists” in civilian capacities. These jobs do not require the extensivetraining provided by the basic police academy. This certificate program will provide the highly technical knowledge andskills required to work as a crime scene investigator.
According to theCalifornia Employment Development Department, there are currently 2200 jobsthat include crime scene investigator. These jobs are expected to grow by 13.6% over the next 6 years.
This certificateprogram fits within the existing Administration of Justice Department. Noadditional curriculum or section offerings are required.
