The Gallery Management Certificate is an innovative program combining arts studies with professional experience in museums and commercial enterprises. The Certificate in Gallery Management is an innovative program that integrates a broad foundation of knowledge and professional work experience in the museum sector and commercial business enterprises —designed for students interested in pursuing and merging their studies in the arts with specific career-related training and interdisciplinary knowledge.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Certificate in Gallery Management, students will be able to:
Knowledge
Enable students develop an understanding of gallery and museum practice and theory, in both historical and contemporary contexts as well as art galleries.
Intellectual Skills
Demonstrate direct experience of practices, procedures and policies in the contemporary galleries, museums, and cultural venues and apply skills and ideas learned in one context to another, while aware of the unique complexity of the issue at hand.
Practical Skills
Contribute to the care, use and understanding of gallery and museum objects and collections, the organization of exhibition schedules, and development of programming.
Transferable Skills
Plan and deliver presentations, critically evaluate information, work effectively within a team and communicate ideas effectively in a professional and academic environment.
Relevant Program Information: Graduates will have the skills necessary for careers in the creative sector, including museums, not-for-profit art organizations, and galleries. The program also serves as a strong foundation for those intending to pursue further education in visual art management-related fields.
