Completion of construction management courses lead to an associate of science degree in construction management, which prepare students for entry-level construction management opportunities, either in leadership or in one of many support specialist postilions, working with public owners/agencies, private construction management firms, construction contractors and specialty subcontractors. Construction Management Certificate of Achievement: The Construction Management Certificate is an ideal option for those currently in the building and general engineering construction industry seeking to enhance their skills and advance their career. Courses provide students with a succinct, yet comprehensive, overview of the fundamental principles of construction management, contract documents and administration, and an understanding of their role in a collaborative construction management environment. Program Goal
Construction management is the application of processes, methods, knowledge, skills and experience to achieve successful project outcomes. In reality, it is about people performing varying supporting construction management tasks in the context of a professional, cohesive, collaborative and integrated project team; a collective effort focused on achieving the ultimate construction management goal of completing a construction project safely, on time, within budget and to the prescribed quality requirements. The fundamental principles of construction management apply, regardless of whether the project is public or private, or is managed by an owner/agency, consultant firm or construction contractor. Construction management teams assume key management and oversight functions that include tasks performed at all levels of a construction enterprise. Such tasks include managing and leading the project team, administering the construction project contract, planning and developing the construction scope, overseeing the design process, managing and controlling the budget and schedule, accounting, field office management, document and control, coordination of materials and equipment resources, estimating, managing and mitigating risk, administering payments to contractors, ensuring adherence to quality and safety requirements, coordinating construction inspections and materials testing, monitoring work progress, engaging with stakeholders and ensuring appropriate contract closure and timely turnover of the project deliverables to the owner or agency. The goal of the Citrus College Construction Management Program is four-fold: 1) to design a program that prepares students with the foundational knowledge of the technical aspects of the construction management profession; 2) to provide students with a comprehensive construction management education, training and preparation to become well-qualified construction management professionals; 3) to prepare students for the Construction Manager In Training (CMIT) credential issued by the Construction Management Association of America; and 4) Pursue accreditation of the Program by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE).
