Catalog Description

The Certificate of Achievement in Medical Office Administration program prepares the student with frontoffice skills for a physician’s office, hospital, clinic, laboratory,pharmaceutical company, or health insurance company.  Medical Office Administrators manage patients' medical records, file insurance forms,schedule appointments and arrange clinical procedures. Students learn thebasics of office procedures – billing and bookkeeping, keeping track of officeinventory, and ordering medical and office supplies as needed.

Enrollment Completer Projections

Each cohort will start inthe Fall semester – Year 1.  Core courseswill be completed during Fall semester – Year 1, Spring semester – Year 1.  The planned annual cohort size will be 30students.

The curriculum design was developed during our Advisory Boardmeeting, in which managers from the health care community and faculty membersfrom CSU Fresno and CSU Stanislaus that were present and provided their inputon the curriculum design and sequence of courses [refer to “Health CareAdministration Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes - 04-05-2018,” page 1-2]

TheCertificate of Achievement in Medical Office Administration program is part of ClovisCommunity College stackable health-related CTE certificates.  Students earning the Certificate ofAchievement in Medical Office Administration are prepared to work in the healthcare field or continue on to a higher degree in A.S. in Health Care Administration.

Program Goals:

  1. Prepare students for employment with front office skills for a physician’s office, hospital, clinic, laboratory, pharmaceutical company, or health insurance company.

 Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate skills to work in a front office at a health care facility.

 The Certificate of Achievement in Medical Office Administration program is classified as “Other – Designed to Meet Community Needs.”  Also, the Certificate of Achievement in Medical Office Administration program is classified under Career and TechnicalEducation (CTE), whose programs goals and objectives are to prepare studentsfor the workforce.  The vocational TOPcode is classified under 1208.20 – Administrative Medical Assisting Principlesand techniques to assist with administration in health care offices andclinics. This includes receptionist duties, maintaining patient records,billing, insurance, bookkeeping, appointments, and scheduling.  The CIP code is classified under HealthServices/Allied Health/Health Sciences, General.

 Clovis Community College isdeveloping more CTE programs to meet the needs of the community and businessesin the surrounding Fresno area.  The Certificateof Achievement in Medical Office Administration program is the thirdhealth-related CTE program at Clovis Community College, building upon thecollege’s existing program inventory of offering programs that focus oncommunity building, diversity, and innovation.

 Student Selection and Fees:  The program is open to enrollment and there is a selection process for admission tothe program, in compliance with provisions of Title 5, sections 55201 and58106.
