The goal of this Certificate is to prepare students for immediate employment or self-employment as designers of residential architecture projects. Students who have completed the coursework for this Certificate will have the skills to prepare and/or direct the preparation of construction documents for residential architecture projects.

Housed within the Career Technical Education Division, this program provides a clear path to those looking for immediate employability in the field of architecture. A student earning this Certificate is in a position to design and direct the preparation of construction documents for single-family residential projects (without a legal requirement to obtain licensure as an Architect). Completion of the coursework in this Certificate provides students with the appropriate knowledge of architectural construction documents and the prescriptive Building Codes requirements which regulate such projects. Therefore, this course satisfies the need to provide the residential construction industry with personnel trained inappropriate design and development skills.

This program is complementary to other Certificates and Degrees in the field of Architecture. Although some coursework is common, completion of this program indicates a focus on residential architecture projects as opposed to the aesthetics of design or commercial (non-residential) design (which are addressed in other related Certificates and Degrees).
