This certificate offers training in music composition geared towards gainful employment in the television, film, video gaming, internet and commercial music industries.

It is designed to prepare students for careers composing music for Film, TV, Radio, Commercials, Video Games, Websites or as a Songwriter.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  • compose music for a variety of commercial applications, utilizing composition techniques from a range of musical styles and periods.
  • sync original music with video footage of film, television, animation and video game applications.
  • create an online portfolio of original music representing a variety of multimedia modalities.

Program Requirements Narrative

The course sequence is designed to train students in the fundamental skills of composition, music sequencing, audio production, video synchronization and songwriting while also providing invaluable experience performing in musical ensembles. Students take the full 4-course Music Theory and Musicianship sequence which they are able to complete in a single academic year at FLC. They also take Intro to MIDI to learn  necessary skills in computer music software applications as well as ProTools to further their Audio Production skills. They complete the program with Songwriting to prepare for gainful employment writing songs for the commercial music industry.
