Goal of Program

CTE & Transfer

Include any other information you would like to share.
This certificate of achievement is designed with the following goals and outcomes: 1) to provide short-term training and a certification for students seeking para-professional positions in human services occupations; and/or 2) to provide a foundation for contined professional development and career opportunites to earn an associate degree in Human Services (see attached), and/or 3) an educational pathway for university transfer in a similar field. In particular, the courses in this certificate provide the flexibility to align with Chabot College's AA-T in Social Work and Human Services (see attached), which will feed into similar majors at many California State University campuses, including (but not limited to) San Francisco State University BA in Social Work, CSU East Bay BA in Ethnic Studies, and six different majors at San Jose State University.
Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
None. The East Bay programs listed on the LMI Report, while under the same TOP code, are largely different or no longer exist. For example, Contra Costa College has a Certificate of Acheivement in Dual Diagnosis Screening, Merritt College has a Certicate of Achievement in Substance Abuse. Los Positas College no longer has a Certificate of Acheivement under this TOP code in their College Catalog nor does Canada College appear to either. The closest similar program is located at Berkeley City College (Social Work and Human Services Paraprofessional, Certificate of Achievement), which is a 21.5 mile drive from Chabot College. With the exception of online courses, those Chabot College students who enroll in other community colleges typically venture no further than Ohlone College (Fremont), Laney College (Oakland), or our sister campus, Las Positas College (LIvermore).
