Foundations of Web Development

The Web Development program serves students entering fields that need Web Development skills and knowledge and working professionals who need to learn new skills for their current job or for career advancement. The program prepares students to design and create Web sites, including integrating databases and content management systems, creating multimedia elements, and editing content to follow writing for the Web guidelines. Students acquire a solid foundation in usability, accessibility, and design principles, as well as technical skills at hand coding HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL. Students use industry standard software and practices to prepare for entry-level careers.

Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
CA Award Goals:
1. To provide students with the theoretical knowledge, applicable standards-based technical and coding skills, and attitude necessary to function as an entry-level Web developer.
2. To impart to students the use of current practices and standards of Web informational design: writing for the Web, design principles, Web site architecture, Web site usability and Web accessibility.
3. To prepare student for the demands and responsibilities in the work environment, students will create projects on their own, or in teams, with each student assuming responsibility for the production process.
4. To educate students to practice respect for copyright laws and regulations for content on the Web site.
5. To inculcate in students the practice of life-long learning and professional growth.
CA Award Objectives:
The objective of this award is to increase enrollment by meeting industry demands and focusing on emerging front-end technologies.

Course Report
Students earning Foundations of Web Development Certificate of Achievement will be prepared for a career in web design and front end web development which pertains to the visual functionality of web sites. Students acquire a solid foundation in usability, accessibility, and design principles, as well as technical skills at hand coding HTML, CSS, PHP and MySQL. Students use industry standard software and practices to prepare for entry-level careers. Graduates of this certificate program should be ready for entry level work in the following positions: Career Options: Web Designer, Web Developer, Front-End Developer, Content Manager, Social Media Manager, Search Engine Optimizer, Digital Engineer, Data Model Engineer, Web Programmer, HTML and CSS Coders, and Internet Concept Developer.
Students who complete the Foundations of Web Development Certificate will be able to:
• Create and write user friendly content for the web
• Effectively turn designs into Web sites
• Produce Web Sites with validated HTML5 markup
• Utilize modern CSS3 techniques to add styles to web pages
• Be able to create Web Applications with Modern Frameworks like React

Margie - We are creating this certificate from existing courses. No new courses were created. We felt this certificate would help us to better track student completions.

My only concern is that several colleges already offer this and there is only a very small supply gap so not sure how adding another program will affect our current programs.
