Goal of Program

CTE & Transfer

Include any other information you would like to share.
thin CCSF the proposed program seeks to “contribute to enrollment growth and development of in‐demand programs for degree/transfer and workforce certificates”. Once a locally approved certificate this CTE program has more units required and is more robust thus better falls under a Certificate of Achievement. The demand for still and product photography in the bay area is strong and thus our Industry Advisors encouraged us to train our students accordingly. This low unit certificate (18units) in PHOT is “stackable” which means the students earning them are also on a path to the AS degree and other certificates should they choose. This certificate can be acquired in three to four semesters. This is a unique program serving CCSF and collaborates with other departments (DSGN, VMD, JOURN) Previously we offered a Certificates of “Accomplishment” in this area. There are no other departments offering similar curriculum. Students prepare to transfer within the CSU system as well as to non-profit private colleges such as CCA. We are part of the 2+2 program within California College of the Arts (see attached). Students can also challenge to waive more courses depending on how much they’ve completed at CCSF PHOTO. See attached 2+2 agreement. Job demand for commercial photography and related occupations in the bay area is on the rise. In the east bay the projection for job increase according to https://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov is +14.3% and in San Francisco County 9.4%. Our certificates train students to work in the profession and to transfer to four-year colleges. According to our Industry Advisors (meeting minutes attached) wage summaries on the “doing what matters” website are low. This might be in part to the fact that they survey lower income companies such as department stores and retail outlets whereas most photographers are independent entrepreneurs or work in the bay area independently for Sunset Magazine, San Francisco Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle. Attached is a labor market demand and supply data for “photojournalist and photographer” was submitted from the Bay Region Center of Excellence. However attached results are in relation to Digital Photography so share some data. Note – this data does not take into account entrepreneurs or freelancers who are earning wages of approx. $80,000+ per year plus according to alumni surveys. Please list similar programs at other colleges in the service area which may be impacted, including the name of the college, the name of the program that may be impacted, the name of the person you contacted and the outcome of that contact.
We are the most comprehensive program attracting students from other institutions such at Foothill College, Skyline college and Laney college who have smaller programs but are not as comprehensive and are outside of San Francisco proper. San Francisco State University offers a BA degree in Journalism but is not necessarily focused on photography and we serve many of their students. The Academy of Art University offers a degree in Photography however it is over $25,000 a year. City College San Francisco serves a separate urban population.
