Catalog Description

The Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate of Achievement provides students with the industry-recognized knowledge and skills required for employment as entry-level technicians in the automotive service and repair industry. This certificate provides a pathway of stackable credentials leading to the Associate of Science Degree, Automotive Technology.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

  1. Perform routine maintenance on a modern vehicle at the professional level.
  2. Perform basic service and repairs on modern automotive braking systems.
  3. Perform basic service and repairs on modern automotive steering and suspension systems.
  4. Exhibit professional work habits that promote a safe, productive, and environmentally-conscious work environment.
Enrollment Completer Projections

With the addition of the basic level certificate of achievement, the program expects to increase the number of students earning a certificate or degree by 12 to 20 students annually. Historically, many students enrolled in our two-year degree program have been able to gain employment before degree completion, and this 20-unit certificate of achievement will recognize that students have gained employable skills and knowledge after completion of the first two semesters of the degree pathway.
