Program Goal

This Agriculture Research Technician Certificate of Achievement has been designed at Woodland Community College to address educational preparation for both local workforce training and agriculture preparation across this complex industry. The college is located in Yolo County, which houses the largest hub of seed companies, both national and global, in California. Further, the college is also located 13 miles north of U.C. Davis, the leading research institution for agriculture. The local employers have identified a need for skilled entry-level employees; this certificate will meet this need.

The goal of the Agriculture program with this certificate is to prepare students to work in the field of agriculture, and be successful in carrying the knowledge set from the classroom and laboratory, to the dynamic science-driven agriculture industry. Students will be prepared to meet this goal by completing a series of courses in agriculture, mathematics, and plant or soil science, which combine both content delivery with application of the knowledge and skills in the laboratory. This certificate provides students with base knowledge needed to be competent in an entry-level job in agriculture industry.
