  • Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
Program Goal

This program groups the series of three courses (CIM 181, 182, and 283) that make up the preparation students need to take the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Exam.  These courses are also in other CIM awards, but there are many CIM students who are only pursuing training to prepare for the CCNA Exam.  This COA allows for them to do this preparation as well as earn a transcriptable award.

This COA will prepare students for a career as Computer User Support Specialists or Computer Network Support Specialists and students will acquire the following basic core Information Technology competencies:

  • Apply fundamental computing knowledge and current technology techniques, skills and tools.
  • Locate, critically evaluate, and solve business problems with technology solutions using qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate computer-based systems, processes, components, or programs to meet desired needs.
  • Understand the professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities in the information technology domain.
  • Analyze the impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
  • Understand the relevance of continuing professional development in the information technology domain.
  • Identify and analyze user needs in the selection, creation, evaluation, and administration of computer-based systems.
  • Explain the use of best practices and technology standards, and their application in an organizational context.
  • Increase one’s professional net worth, and start on a path toward career advancement.
  • Prepare to pursue a bachelor’s degree in information technology to further your knowledge and marketability.

The COA in CCNA, offered as part of the Computer Information Management (CIM) program, directly supports the College's mission and College Goal 3:

  • IVC’s Mission Statement: Irvine Valley College is committed to student success.  The College is devoted to student learning and success through exemplary and integrated teaching and support services, effective stewardship, and continued accessibility in a diverse community.
  • IVC Strategic Goal 3: IVC will advance economic and workforce development through regional partnerships with educational institutions and industry and by strengthening career technical education.

Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

This program is designed to be completed in one academic year.

Many of our IT students are seeking a prep course(s) for Cisco's CCNA certification exam.  There are a series of three classes that will teach them the required material to prepare for that exam.

This COA captures those students and allows us to count them as 'completers' since they are only seeking these three courses.
