Data Analyst Associate

The Certificate of Achievement in Data Analytics Associate is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills required for a variety of entry level positions in the field of Data Analytics. The program includes foundation courses in Data Analytics and a wide range of skill-builder courses.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing and data requirements appropriate to its solution.
2. Students will apply data analytics techniques and tools to implement and test a specified design.
3. Students will communicate and report data findings and solutions using data presentation and visualization tools.

Data Analytics is one of the emerging trends in Computer Information field. Data is now an integral part of our society. There is a high demand for data analytic skills at every level. The goal of the Certificate of Achievement in Data Analytics Associate is to provide students with knowledge and skills required for a variety of entry level positions in the field of Data Analytics. The Data Analytics Associate program is an 18-19 unit Certificate of Achievement  that provides students with knowledge and skills required for a variety of entry level positions in the field of Data Analytics. The first cohort of students entering this program will be from our partnership program, Year Up. It will also be open to our general student population.

Most community colleges in the bay area and around California offer certificate programs in different focused areas of Computer Information Systems. Data Analytics is an emerging area and the market demands are high. There is no TOPS code specifically for Data Analytics. Using the closely related Computer Information Systems TOPS code, there were no community colleges in the Bay Region issuing awards on average annually (last 3 years ending 2018-19) on TOP 0707.30 - Computer Systems Analysis according to LMI report from Centers of Excellence. (Attached). Based on the data included in the report, there is a large labor market gap in the Bay region with 7,481 annual openings for the Data Analytics occupational cluster and no annual (3-year average)awards for an annual undersupply of 7,481 students. To our knowledge there will be no issue of overlap within our region.
