Unix Administrator Certificate

The UNIX Administrator Certificate is a high quality certification process that will provide evidence that a qualifying individual has skill in designing, implementing and maintaining UNIX and Linux based networks. By being certified, clients, customers, and employers are ensured that the UNIX administrator is well equipped to handle the day-to-day operations associated with a UNIX based network as well as the unforeseen problems that tend to arise in any network.

The Unix Administrator certificate is designed to train students to use and develop Unix/Linux type operating systems to facilitate solutions to common business and organizational requirements.  When a student completes the 4 required classes, CIS 50, CIS 190, CIS 261, (CIS 83 or CIS 84), they will have the entry level skills qualifying them to design implement and administer Unix/Linux systems. 

The above coursework would ideally be completed in 18 months with the following sequence:

• Fall semester year one: CIS 50, CIS 190
• Spring semester year one: CIS 83
  • Fall semester year 2: CIS 261
