2019 The Inclusion Support Certificate provides students with foundational knowledge and skills for those working with children with disabilities (Pre K-12) in either self-contained or inclusive learning environments. The 10-unit certificate requires 4 courses, each of which targets key concepts and competencies integral to the Special Education profession, including but not limited to 1) characteristics of children with diverse disabilities as outlined by legislated categorical definitions and criteria; 2) curriculum adaptations and modifications; 3) Positive Behavior Support; and 4) culminating experience requiring observation and case-analysis.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon Completion of Certificate requirements, students will be able to:

1. Communicate their understanding of education and human development concepts as it relates to school age learning, recreation and out of school time, through written, oral and visual presentations in various professional and academic contexts.
2. Demonstrates an understanding of education and human development theories, trends and needs of the school age child by maintaining healthy, safe, respectful, challenging and culturally responsive environments.
3. Critically assess their own teaching and learning experiences through critical thinking and reflection that will guide and inform their practice with school age children in various settings including recreation and after school programs.
