Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are software systems that allow users to integrate spatially related information from spreadsheets with smart mapping capabilities. In the Geographic Information Systems Certificate of Achievement, students work with ESRI ArcGIS software to learn Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tasks including: identification and acquisition of GIS data; assessment of vector and raster systems, scale, resolution, map projection, coordinate systems; spatial analysis; geoprocessing; georeferencing and Global Positioning Systems; creation of online and interactive maps. Geographic Information Systems provides basic information for a variety of careers including urban planning, community services, emergency services, resource extraction, business development, demographics and census research and Electives in this certificate allow students to investigate multiple pathways or concentrate on one area of impact.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are software systems that allow users to integrate spatially related information from spreadsheets with smart mapping capabilities. In the Geographic Information Systems Essentials Certificate of Completion, students work with ESRI ArcGIS software to learn fundamental concepts of performing GIS tasks: identification and acquisition of GIS data; assessment of vector and raster systems, scale, resolution, map projection, coordinate systems; georeferencing and Global Positioning Systems. Students also learn how to use ArcGIS online products to create online and interactive maps.
Geographic Information Systems provides basic information for a variety of careers including urban planning, community services, emergency services, resource extraction, business development, demographics and census research. Electives in this certificate allow students to pursue one or more career pathways in which GIS skills are an essential skill.
Upon successful completion of this certificate, students should be able to demonstrate how GIS technology can be applied to many fields including environmental research, government, business, real estate, health care, urban planning, fire technology, agriculture, landscape design, anthropology, and more. Students should also be competent with ArcGIS software, spatial analysis, and electronic database management.
