Program Goal

The Certificate of Achievement in Heavy Equipment and Industrial Systems Operations and Maintenance prepares students for careers within a variety of industries. The use of hands-on project-based learning and a curriculum designed to engage students will prepare them to Operate and Maintain Heavy Equipment and Industrial Systems. Students will be prepared to enter the growing industrial, manufacturing, and/or agriculture sectors, which rely on and use a variety of heavy equipment, both mobile and stationary, as well as highly specific industrial processing systems.

Professionals in this industry bring strengths from the integration of science, applied technology, heavy equipment, and industrial systems. This program combines core concepts of heavy equipment operation and maintenance (both mobile and stationary) as well as industrial manufacturing and processing systems with the additional skills and knowledge necessary to meet local industry needs and future trends. Skills in heavy equipment operations, industrial systems maintenance, computer applications, fluid power, engines, electrical and welding will allow students to be prepared for careers in a variety of occupations related to agricultural power equipment and industrial processing systems. Career opportunities are expected to be strong, with relatively low risk of automation.

Ventura College can fill the gap that exists in the region for educated and qualified graduates in the field of heavy equipment and industrial systems operations and maintenance, contributing to the overall economic growth and development of the leading private-sector employers in the county, particularly the agriculture sector.
